Holiday Parade Volunteer
Look for the Salvation Army Cargo Truck

Purpose of Position: Holiday Parade Volunteers help The Salvation Army spread joy and community spirit during local holiday parades. Please come out, bring the children and walk beside us as we celebrate holidays by distributing candy, waving to paradegoers, and sharing festive energy. Volunteers will serve as ambassadors as they walk the volunteer route with Salvation Army Officers, Salvation Army employees and other volunteers. Help highlight The Salvation Army mission of bringing hope and support to the community.

The Salvation Army Mission Statement: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Responsibilities:

  • Walk alongside The Salvation Army truck during community parades

  • Greet and wave to spectators with enthusiasm

  • Hand out candy or small items (provided by The Salvation Army)

  • Represent The Salvation Army in a positive, family-friendly manner

  • Follow all parade and safety guidelines as directed by staff

Qualifications:

  • Recommend to be 14 years or older (volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult or group leader at all times)

  • Able to walk the full parade route (up to 2 miles)

  • Friendly, enthusiastic, and able to engage with the community

  • Comfortable being outdoors and standing/walking for extended periods

  • Willing to wear festive or Salvation Army-provided apparel (e.g., apron, T-shirt, Santa hat)

Schedule & Time Commitment:

  • Parade dates and times vary (July & November)

  • Typical commitment is 2–4 hours, including staging, walking, and closing activities

  • Event will happen rain or shine

  • One-time commitment per parade, but volunteers are welcome to join multiple events

Additional Information:

  • Orientation and day-of instructions will be provided

  • Volunteers may earn service hours and request letters of recommendation

  • Great opportunity for groups, teens, and families to volunteer together

  • Dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes
