The Senior Event Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing engaging social events that foster a sense of community among seasoned adults. This role ensures that seniors have regular opportunities to socialize, participate in enjoyable activities, and stay connected with their peers. The volunteer will play a key role in enhancing the quality of life for elders by organizing inclusive and well-coordinated events.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, plan, and execute monthly senior social events, including but not limited to themed gatherings, game days, movie nights, and community outings.
Collaborate with local businesses, artists, and community leaders to secure resources, guest speakers, or entertainment for events.
Promote upcoming events through flyers, social media, and direct outreach to the senior community.
Set up event spaces, handle logistics such as seating arrangements, refreshments, and decorations.
Ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all senior participants.
Engage with seniors to assess interests and gather feedback to improve future events.
Work alongside The Salvation Army staff and other volunteers to coordinate event support and ensure smooth execution.
Keep records of attendance, event success, and any challenges encountered for reporting purposes.
Qualifications:
Strong organizational and event planning skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working with seniors.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt plans when needed.
Prior experience in event planning, hospitality, senior services, or volunteer coordination is a plus but not required.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Schedule & Time Commitment:
Flexible schedule with availability needed for planning and hosting events (typically a few hours per week).
Events are generally held monthly; additional time may be required for preparation.
Some evening or weekend availability may be needed depending on event timing.
Volunteers are asked to commit for at least three months, with the option to extend.

Orientation and training will be provided to ensure volunteers are well-prepared.
