Volunteer Title:Senior Center Assistant
Report To:Deborah Reynolds & Kitchen Staff
Schedule:Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM | Four volunteers per day
Role Overview:Volunteers support the smooth operation of the Senior Center by welcoming seniors, assisting with check-in, helping with meals, light cleaning, and supporting activities or events. This role is vital in fostering a welcoming environment and ensuring that seniors (55+) feel valued, safe, and engaged.
Key Responsibilities:
Welcoming & Support:
Greet seniors warmly and answer questions about programs and services.
Assist seniors with mobility and guide them to activities
Share information about events and schedule updates.
Check-In & Attendance:
Manage participant check-in efficiently.
Maintain accurate attendance records and assist with paperwork.
Meal Preparation & Service:
Assist in preparing meals under supervision (chopping, cooking, organizing ingredients).
Serve meals, ensuring dietary needs are accommodated.
Clean and organize the dining area before and after meals.
Kitchen & Center Maintenance:
Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Sweep, mop, take out trash, and maintain a clean, safe environment.
Help with light cleaning and decorating for monthly themes or special events.
Community Engagement:
Build positive relationships with residents, offering support and encouragement.
Participate in organizing activities that promote social engagement.
Report incidents and maintain a comfortable environment.
Qualifications:
Compassionate and patient when working with seniors (55+) and unhoused individuals.
Basic knowledge of food preparation and safety practices (for kitchen tasks).
Able to lift 25 lbs. (kitchen role) and stand or sit for extended periods.
Comfortable working indoors in a senior-focused environment.
Dress Code:
Closed-toe shoes (no sandals, heels, or flip-flops).
Shirts may be short or long-sleeved; no spaghetti straps, strapless, sleeveless, or midriff-baring tops.
Shorts, dresses, and skirts should be of appropriate length for comfort when bending or reaching.
Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age or older and have prior confirmation to participate (no walk-ins)
Complete registration through the designated volunteer site and connect with the Volunteer Coordinator for onboarding
Provide a valid ID during onboarding for identity verification
Volunteers committing 40+ hours annually are required to complete a background check (no exceptions)
