Volunteer Title:Emmanuel House – Meal Distribution Reports To:Emmanuel House Director and Salvation Army StaffSchedule:Monday–Friday, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM |one volunteer needed per evening

Position Overview:As a Kitchen and Shelter Helper, you will assist with handling and distributing cooked meals and support the daily operations of Emmanuel House Men’s Shelter. This role helps maintain a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment where the community can receive nutritious meals and consistent care.

Key Responsibilities:

Meal Setup & Distribution Support:

• Assist with setting up meals for distribution

• Support smooth meal service operations as needed

Post-Meal Support:

• Help return leftover meals to the kitchen after meal service, time permitting

Additional Support Tasks:

• Assist with additional tasks when time and staffing allow

• Portion food items into single-service containers

• Assemble hygiene kits or assist with similar preparation activities

Qualifications:

• Ability to follow instructions, work cooperatively as part of a team, and assist with a variety of tasks based on daily needs

• Comfort working in a kitchen or meal service environment while maintaining cleanliness and basic food safety standards

Dress Code & Safety:

• Closed-toe shoes required, no sandals, flip-flops, or heels.

• Clothing should provide appropriate coverage and allow for safe movement when working around food.

• Hair nets and gloves must be worn in the kitchen (provided on-site).

Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older and have prior confirmation to participate (no walk-ins)

• Complete registration through the designated volunteer site and connect with the Volunteer Coordinator for onboarding

• Provide a valid ID during onboarding for identity verification

• Volunteers committing 40+ hours annually are required to complete a background check (no exceptions)
