The Salvation Army has opportunities in various departments for you to grow and/or expand your skills. The training will help you regain knowledge and/or learn something entirely new in one of our departments below.

1.) Front Desk (Family Services) Trainee: We are currently looking for a Trainee to work our afternoon shifts are available Monday - Friday from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm on a flexible schedule. We are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Duties Include:

  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Office Suite, various programs/applications, internet, emails, data entry, and can work independently once trained.

  • Copy machine and/or handling mail

  • Handling Inbound/Outbound calls

  • Filing, organizing and attention to detail.

  • Attending Special Events (if needed)

  • Handling Intakes and out processing for Volunteers and UPS workers (Community Service)

  • Assist with Front Desk when necessary, handling phone calls, emails and check in/ check out processes, guests and volunteers. Light cleanup/organize main entrance area.

2.) Maintenance Trainee: Hours subject to the Managers Need and will be discussed during interview. Days needed are Monday – Friday. We are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Duties Include:

  • Clean office restrooms

  • Sweep, mop, vacuum offices as needed

  • Wipe windows at the front of 908 Yuma

  • Remove trash from the front lobby

  • Sweep and mop cafe as needed

  • Check Wendelken Room as needed

  • Clean north hallway bathrooms across from the gym

  • Remove trash from classrooms

  • Clean classrooms as needed

  • Vacuum hallways through 908 Yuma

  • Empty trash from can located at Chapel entrance

  • Clean restrooms in pantry area

  • Check Chapel for trash and floor debris

  • Move to 91 0 Yuma to remove trash from offices and lobby

  • Clean 910 restrooms

  • Sweep, mop, vacuum 91 0 as needed

  • Remove trash from Yuma GP offices

  • Clean Yuma GPD office restrooms

  • Sweep (brush off) Yuma sidewalks as needed

  • Check vacuum bag/belts on a weekly basis

  • Make a list of necessary items that need to be replenished

  • Vacuum 908 Hallway near offices before occupants arrive

  • Remove rash from offices

  • Assist in cleaning of GPD Units For Apartment turnover, to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal and surface wipe downs of walls, appliances and other surfaces.

3.) Volunteer Coordinator Assistant Trainee: Open hours are from 9am-4pm. We are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Duties Include:

  • Utilized Microsoft Office Suite, the Volunteer Management System (VMS), smart devices, and other software applications to perform daily administrative and operational tasks.

  • Responded to inbound and outbound emails, phone calls, and text messages while providing professional customer service. Assisted UPS employees and volunteers by answering questions, resolving concerns, and maintaining courteous, effective communication in person and over the phone.

  • Performed administrative duties including printing, scanning, copying, laminating, and creating identification name badges.

  • Assisted volunteers with account management, completing forms, maintaining accurate alphabetical filing systems, organizing records, and conducting facility walkthroughs.

  • Monitored volunteers during service assignments and completed required follow-up documentation in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies and procedures.

  • Adapted to changing organizational needs while providing administrative and operational support to advance The Salvation Army's mission and assist staff as needed.

4.) Colorado Springs Kitchen Café Trainee:

Duties Include:

  • Serving Food: Hot meals

  • Meal Prep: lunches and dinners

  • Kitchen/Cafe Cleaning: sanitizing, dishwashing, putting orders away and organizing, mopping and sweeping.

  • Other duties: Cleaning bathrooms, cooler, freezer and storeroom when needed

  • Protecting The Mission (PTM): Keeping children and vulnerable adults safe at all times. Includes reporting when necessary.

  • Customer service:  Learn/Use POS and cash handling 

  • Preparing for events: Set up/breakdown food tables, set up decor(s) for community luncheons, dinners and other food events. 

  • Monitoring: other volunteers during service assignments and completed required follow-up documentation in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies and procedures.

  • Adapting: to changing organizational needs while providing administrative and operational support to advance The Salvation Army's mission and assist staff as needed.
