Purpose/Goal of Position:Support The Salvation Army by helping to sort donations.
Qualifications/Skills/Certifications Needed:
Ability to commit to regular volunteer shifts
Physical ability to perform the work safely, lift up to 20 pounds
Must be able to follow direction and work as part of a group and on you own.
Must be 18 years or older.
No court ordered volunteers
Duties/Responsibilities:
Carefully inspecting items for damage, wear, or safety issues
Identifying items that need special handling or disposal
Accurately assessing quality and condition
Ability to lift, carry, and move boxes and items safely
Standing for extended periods
Basic manual dexterity for handling various objects
Determining what items are suitable for distribution versus disposal
Making judgment calls about item quality and appropriateness
Knowing when to ask supervisors about questionable items
Asking questions when uncertain about procedures
Following verbal and written instructions clearly
Recognizing potentially hazardous items (broken glass, expired products)
Using proper lifting techniques
Wearing appropriate protective equipment when needed
Respecting the dignity of those who will receive the items
Requirements:
1. Length (months):Ongoing
2. Schedule: weekdays from 9:30 am to Noon and/or 1pm to 3pm. We do ask that volunteers commit to one day of the week for a minimum of three months.
