We are currently looking for groups of 5-15 volunteers to help with our large food distributions at the El Cajon Red Shield locations.

Thank you for makign a difference in your community. Our Commodities distribution is a large scale food distribution that happens once per month, making this a great group volunteer opportunity.

Position Overview: We are seeking compassionate and reliable volunteers to assist with our food distribution program serving families, seniors, and individuals in need within our community. Volunteers will play a vital role in ensuring that government commodity foods reach those who need them most.

Key Responsibilities:

• Sort and organize incoming food shipments, including USDA commodity items and other donated goods

• Prepare food packages and boxes according to program guidelines and family size requirements

• Assist clients in a respectful and welcoming manner during distribution days

• Help distribute food items to recipients, including carrying boxes to vehicles when needed

• Maintain clean and organized food storage and distribution areas

• Follow food safety and handling protocols at all times

• Assist with inventory tracking and recording distribution data as needed

• Support setup and breakdown of distribution sites

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 25 pounds

• Comfortable standing and moving for extended periods

• Patient, friendly demeanor and commitment to treating all clients with dignity and respect

• Ability to work as part of a team

• Reliable and punctual

• Willingness to work in varying conditions (may include warehouse settings or outdoor distribution sites)

Time Commitment:

• Distribution days: Every third Friday of the month.

• 8:30am to Noon

• This location does not have parking. However, there is metered street parkign around the location.
