Position: Food Pantry Check-In Helper
Report To: Terry Knickerbocker
Program: Food Pantry
Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:45am-12:15PM / (Need 2 volunteers per day)
Location: STATION A (in the parking lot, next to station B under a canopy)
Role Overview: The Food Pantry check-in helper is responsible for welcoming and assisting clients as they arrive at the food pantry station A. This role is essential for creating a friendly atmosphere and ensuring smooth operations during check-in. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and a passion for supporting our community. Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese is a plus but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
Welcoming Participants:
Greeting clients warmly as they arrive, ensuring they feel valued and comfortable.
Assist clients with any questions or concerns about activities and services offered at the food pantry.
2. Check-In Process:
Manage the check-in process efficiently, ensuring all participants are accounted for.
Maintain accurate attendance records and assist with any necessary paperwork.
3. Assistance and Support:
Monitor the waiting area to ensure a safe and comfortable environment.
4. Communication:
Share information about upcoming events and resources available at the food pantry.
Collaborate with staff to relay important updates or changes of food pantry program.
Skills or Qualifications:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Patience and empathy for working with marginalized groups.
Basic computer skills for record-keeping (Excel)
Bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese or Mandarin a plus.
Working Conditions:
May be required to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
Please be aware this role requires outdoor activity and is working with people of different groups (homeless, low income or limited English).
Appropriate Attire: Please wear closed-toe shoes (not sandals, heels, flipflops). Shirts should be short or long-sleeved (no spaghetti straps, strapless, sleeveless, mid-riff showing or tank top types). Shorts/dresses/skirts should be longer in length, appropriate for comfortably bending and reaching items.
