For over 60 years, The Salvation Army has delivered Christmas meals to around 4000 homebound seniors and disabled adults.
COVID-19 has impacted everyone, and the elderly and housebound adults in our community have been impacted more than most as they experience even more isolation than usual. The special touch of a fresh holiday meal and a warm greeting from our volunteers will be extra special this Christmas!
To ensure the meals can be delivered safely for our volunteers and clients, we have implemented a number of changes as follows:
A catering company will prepare and package the meals off-site for safety and expediency (no meal prep by volunteers).
Delivery routes will be pre-assigned and emailed to drivers before Christmas
Check in and meal pickup on Christmas Day will be drive-up (volunteers will remain in their vehicles) (Note: Deliveries will still be made door-to-door)
Masks and social distancing for ALL volunteers
(Full details are in the Volunteer Packet linked in the registration confirmation email.)
Notes for delivery shifts:
20 meal routes (2 food boxes)
40 meal routes - less stops but more deliveries at those stops (4 food boxes)
(NOTE: Drivers - please only reserve ONE SPOT PER VEHICLE.
If reserving a spot for a 40 Meal Route Shift, please ensure you have space for 4 food boxes. Thank you!)
Thank you for sharing your Christmas Day with us! We cannot do this without you and we appreciate your generosity of time.
