Food Pantry Volunteer (Downtown San Diego)

Thank you for helping us do the most good. Volunteers helping in our food pantry will help with set up/clean up, sorting, and distribution of food to clients.

Join Our Food Pantry Volunteer Team!

Are you ready to make a difference in your community? We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us sort and distribute food to those in need. Your efforts will bring smiles and hope to many!

What You’ll Do:

Inventory Management: Categorize and organize non-perishable food items and canned goods within the food pantry storage system.

Client Service: Facilitate the distribution of pre-packaged food supplies to community recipients in accordance with program guidelines.

Facility Maintenance: Perform essential operational tasks including cardboard breakdown, removal of expired inventory, and maintaining pantry cleanliness to ensure readiness for subsequent distribution cycles.

Qualifications:

Client-Focused Approach: Demonstrated ability to engage professionally with the public, with particular dedication to serving homeless and low-income populations.

Physical Requirements: Capacity to lift and transport 20-pound food packages and maintain standing position throughout shift duration. Must demonstrate self-sufficiency while also responding effectively to supervision.

Work Environment: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced setting with multiple concurrent responsibilities and changing priorities.

Language Proficiency: Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish or English/Mandarin) are highly valued but not mandatory.

Please Note: All volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Must be able to work independently. We are not accepting court-ordered volunteers at any of our locations.
